This poster was created for a festival celebrating the naming of the city of Gyoda (in Saitama Prefecture, directly north of Tokyo). The town annexed three nearby villages in 1937, and officially was officially recognized as a city in 1949. The festival advertised in this cheery poster was sponsored by the Gyoda Chamber Commerce Industry. Mentioned in the lower text of the poster is the "Tabi" sock industry (a sock traditionally worn with kimono), a product for which Gyoda is well-known.
